It almost feels like summer...

Inspired by the weather I have decided to pull out the 'ol Roadie, and see if it still works. Maybe, just maybe...Lake Hood Half Ironman???

Little River Rail Trail - 21km trail run - DONE!

Adventure 8: Attend 20 spin classes - DONE!

20 Spin classes complete! I feel sad that I've finished this challenge as spin classes are a great interval workout, and Daniel Hibbs' classes can be very entertaining. I think I'll keep doing these for the rest of the challenge (and they can count as group classes for the "Sprint to the Finish".

Peak 17: Mt Alford, 1171m

Adventure 14: Climb a Grade 20 route at The Roxx- DONE!

I started this competition climbing grades 14-15-16. I had plenty of leg strength and a few skills, but with no upper body strength what so-ever, the minute a route became overhung and gravity kicked in, I was toast!
What a huge difference 14 weeks of upper body weight training has made.
Tonight I not only climbed a grade 20, I also climbed a 21 and 22!!!!
Just call me SpiderMan!

10km Run

First run since my paragliding accident.
Ankle held up really well, left ITB got a bit sore but not too slow for a first run.

Peak 6: Mt Bradley

5hrs from Gebbies Pass up to Mt Bradley, via Packhorse Hut.
Beautiful walk through the forest, although quite muddy.
Pity about the cloud at the top which obscured most of the view.

Box Fit

Box Fit tonight - a great interval session!
Next session Friday - looking forward to it.

Little River Rail Trail

Today's mini-challenge was to bike the entire length of the Little River Rail Trail (plus the 7km from home to the start in Hornby).

Saturday 1 June 2013

Peak 5: Mt Herbert, 919m

We definitely chose the hard way to do this walk, from Kaituna Valley, up to Packhorse Hut, and round the back of Mt Bradley through the snow to Mt Herbert. 6.5hrs and a touch of hypothermia later we got back to the car.

"Group" challenge no.1

So this week was Group Challenge One: SURVIVOR WALK. Unfortunately I didn't have a group, so decided to complete it so (my friend Debbie and her son's dog Lance came along as official 'group' photographer)!
The rules of the challenge were:
1. Walk five kilometres carrying a survival pack (contains 2 cans food, cold/wet weather clothing, 6L water, first aid kit, electrolyte drink, sleeping bag or survival blanket).

Extra points for:
1. The five km is done on predominately hilly terrain.

2. Push a pram with 15kg  or a wheelbarrow with 5kg or more in it the whole way.

So this is me, walking from Zeroes cafe to The Sign of the Takahe and back, with my survival pack, pushing a wheelbarrow with 20kg of weights in it:

What a huge day

I took advantage of my day off today: steps this morning (5 sets, carrying 20kg), hot yoga at lunch time, then pole dancing this evening. I am pretty certain I'm going to have a large number of bruises tomorrow, and may not be able to lift my arms.

No pain, no gain!

Tuesday 28 May 2013

89 days to go!

89 days to go, the pressure (from myself) is on!
Big day yesterday with spin class then straight into a weights session.
In the afternoon I did my first stair climbing session, carrying two 10kg plates - I'm not sure if it was my arms or legs screaming more by the end of it.
St Martins stairs (215 steps) climbed four times carrying 20kg. Only 93 sets left to go to reach 20,000 steps!

Pump class this morning at Pioneer - I though I would use low-ish weights to let my arms recover, but it ended up a reasonably tough session with all those reps.

Plus a new Mini Challenge: 30 day core challenge starts 1st June

20 Peaks is back on!!!

Mt Sinclair, Banks Peninsula (841m)
It's amazing what is made possible a good solid pair of tramping boots, a whole lot of strapping tape, a reasonably smooth walking track and some HARDEN UP pills.

Peak 4: Mt Sinclair

And even more exciting news for the day: we are booked to mountain bike the Heaphy Track at the end of July....bring on the mud!
